Ala Spit County Park
Oak Harbor, WA
Ala Spit County Park, formerly Ben Ure Spit, sits south of Deception Pass on Whidbey Island's east side, a flat, roughly one mile round trip spit walk across from Hope Island State Park. Driftwood piles up along the way, and the clamming here, butter clams and cockles, is a real draw for locals who know the tides.
Real and quiet, appealing to walkers and clammers more than sunbathers, undeveloped in a way that some locals genuinely prefer.
How we score beachesThere are no restrooms here, so plan accordingly, and check the tide before heading out if clamming is part of the plan.
Small free parking lot.
