Atlantic Highlands Harbor Beach

Atlantic Highlands, NJ

Uncrowded

Atlantic Highlands doesn't really have an ocean beach. It's a harbor town built around one of the biggest marinas on the bayshore, but a small beach sits along the water near the harbor with calm, protected conditions good for wading more than serious swimming. It's a quiet alternative for anyone staying in town who doesn't want to drive to Sandy Hook or Sea Bright.

Genuinely calm and easy to reach, but there's barely a beach here. Most locals treat the marina and the restaurants along the water as the real destination.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Don't expect a real beach day here. It's better as a stop before or after walking the marina, which is the actual draw in this town.

Parking

Street parking near the harbor serves the beach area. It's limited but rarely the ordeal that ocean side lots become in summer.

Accessibility

A short, flat walk from the harbor area leads to the sand, with no boardwalk or formal paved entry.

Weather & the best time to visit

The harbor keeps the water especially calm through summer, warming into the mid 70s by August. Boat traffic picks up on weekends as the marina fills with visiting sailboats.
