Back Beach (Delano Beach)
Quincy, MA
Back Beach, also called Delano Beach, is reached from Delano Avenue at Utica Street in Quincy's Adams Shore. The water off the beach is well suited for long distance swimming, and the city posts that jet skis and motor boats are not allowed, which keeps the swim area quiet and open.
A calm, motor free swim area that distance swimmers appreciate, though there is no parking at the beach and it is easy to miss.
How we score beachesIf you want laps in open water, this is a good spot. Swim parallel to the shore and stay close to the beach.
No parking in the beach area, so use street parking in the neighborhood and walk over.
Short walk from the street to the sand. The beach surface is regular sand and can be uneven.
Water is warmest in August. Distance swimmers use it from late spring through early fall.
