Big Lagoon County Park sits at the south end of Big Lagoon, a county run boat launch and picnic spot distinct from the state park land around the rest of the lagoon. It's a good put-in for a calm paddle, with the ocean beach and dunes just a short walk over the barrier spit if you'd rather sit in the sand.
A solid, easy lagoon access with real boat launch facilities, though it takes extra effort to reach the actual ocean beach from here.

A path leads from the parking area to the lagoon and boat launch; reaching the ocean beach means crossing the dune spit on foot.

Like the rest of Humboldt Lagoons, fall and winter bring the most birdlife, and water stays cold year round on the ocean side.
