Birch Bay Beach Park
Birch Bay, WA
Birch Bay Beach Park is a Whatcom County community park along Birch Bay Drive, distinct from the state park to the south, built more for gathering than camping. It hosts the town's sand sculpture competition and summer car show, and scattered smaller tideland accesses run the length of the drive between the private cottages.
Real, free, and well used for community events, but it reads more like walking to the water from a cottage than a destination beach.
How we score beachesIf the flagship park lot is full, several smaller unmarked tideland accesses along Birch Bay Drive get you to the same warm, shallow water with a shorter walk from your car.
Free parking, no Discover Pass needed since it's county, not state, land.
Summer brings the events and the warmest wading water.
