Bob Straub State Park Beach
Pacific City, OR
Bob Straub State Park sits on the Nestucca Spit directly across the river mouth from Cape Kiwanda, and it draws a fraction of that beach's crowd despite similar sand and views back at the cape. The spit separates the ocean from the Nestucca River, giving it both open surf on one side and calmer water on the other.
The same views as Cape Kiwanda with a fraction of the crowd, held back only by having none of that beach's facilities or dory boat activity.
How we score beachesWalk to the south end of the spit for a clean view back across the river mouth at Cape Kiwanda and the dory boats, without dealing with that beach's parking.
Free lot at the park entrance, day use only.
A flat path leads from the lot to the beach, crossing some soft dune sand.
Leashed dogs are allowed in the park.
Summer, June through September, brings the calmest water on the river side of the spit and the driest conditions overall.
