Breakwater Beach
Brewster, MA
Breakwater Beach is one of Brewster's biggest bay beaches, with a broad stretch of sand and a proper lot behind it. A tiny sibling, Breakwater Landing, sits just to the west with only a handful of spaces. Both open onto the Brewster flats, which run far out at low tide and warm quickly on sunny afternoons.
Plenty of parking and classic flats make it the go to Brewster beach, but there are no lifeguards to lean on.
How we score beachesIf the main lot is full, Breakwater Landing next door is worth a look, even with only a few spaces. Low tide is the time for exploring the flats.
A Brewster beach permit is required from mid June through the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The lot holds roughly 50 to 60 cars.
The lot is close to the beach, and the sand is soft. There are no lifeguards.
Dogs are prohibited from mid May to mid September.
Mid summer brings the warmest bay water. Early September is quieter and still mild.
