Bruce's Beach

Bruce's Beach carries real, documented history: Willa and Charles Bruce built a Black-owned beach resort here in the 1910s, and the city of Manhattan Beach seized the land by eminent domain in 1924. Los Angeles County returned the property to the Bruce family's descendants in 2022. Today it's a landscaped hillside park above the sand, with the history marked on site for visitors who want the full story.
The history here is significant and genuinely worth the stop, though as a swim beach it's not distinct from the rest of Manhattan Beach's sand.
