Bulls Island Beach

Part of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge and reachable only by ferry, with a stretch known as Boneyard Beach where bleached, sun bare tree trunks lie scattered across the sand like driftwood sculpture. Alligators, loggerhead turtles, and more bird species than most people can name all use this stretch of coast.
The Boneyard Beach driftwood scattered along the sand and the wildlife refuge setting make the ferry ride worth it, just bring everything since there's no shade or facilities once you land.

Dogs are not allowed on the island or the ferry that reaches it, since it is part of a national wildlife refuge.
Coastal South Carolina's summer humidity is heavy, with water in the 80s by midsummer, squarely inside Atlantic hurricane season, June through November. The ferry schedule and the weather both tend to cooperate best in spring and fall.
