Cape Hedge Beach

Rockport, MA

UncrowdedScenic

Cape Hedge Beach lies in southern Rockport between Long Beach and Pebble Beach, roughly two and a half miles from downtown. A big wall of pebbles guards the shore, and a seasonal footbridge links it to Long Beach next door. It reads as quiet and rocky, a beachcombing spot more than a sun and swim beach.

The seclusion and the pebble wall are a nice change from bigger sand beaches, but resident parking and rocky footing limit who will enjoy it.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

The lot is resident only and non-resident parking is very limited, so plan to come by bike or arrive on the Rockport shuttle. Bring good shoes for the cobbles at the waterline.

Parking

The Cape Hedge and Long Beach lot is restricted to residents, and very limited non-resident street parking is available nearby.

Accessibility

The beach is reached by a short walk over a wall of pebbles and cobble, which is uneven footing and not friendly to wheelchairs.

Pets

Dogs are prohibited on Rockport's town beaches from June 1 to September 15.

Weather & the best time to visit

This is a summer and shoulder season beach, with storm swell after nor'easters in fall and winter. The crowd is smallest on weekday evenings.
