Cave Rock Beach
Glenbrook, NV
Cave Rock Beach is part of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, a roughly 400 yard strip of sand beneath the dark volcanic face of Cave Rock on the East Shore. It has a two-lane boat ramp, three picnic areas, and some of the clearest water on the Nevada side for snorkeling. Highway 50 tunnels right through the rock above.
Great snorkeling and a dramatic setting, but the beach is small and the lot fills with boat trailers.
How we score beachesSnorkel along the base of the rock on a calm morning. The boulders drop off quickly and the visibility is excellent before the boat traffic starts.
A small lot of about 20 spaces serves the beach and boat ramp; check posted state park day-use fees.
The beach sits a short walk from the lot at the south end.
Mid to late summer offers the calmest mornings and warmest water. Cave Rock is sacred to the Washoe people, so treat the rock itself with respect year round.
