Chapman Point
Cannon Beach, OR
Chapman Point sits at the north end of Cannon Beach's main stretch of sand, near where Ecola Creek meets the ocean, a launch spot locals use for paddleboarding and kayaking on calmer days as much as a place to just walk. Haystack Rock is visible to the south, giving this end of the beach a quieter view of the same landmark without the midday crowds around the rock itself.
A genuinely quieter stretch of the same Cannon Beach sand and Haystack Rock view, though it's really an extension of the main beach rather than its own distinct destination.
How we score beachesLaunch a paddleboard or kayak here on the creek side at higher tide, when the water is calm enough for beginners, rather than fighting the open ocean swell farther out.
Free parking near Les Shirley Park, at the north end of downtown Cannon Beach.
Flat, direct sand access from the park, no stairs.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach.
Summer, June through September, brings the calmest water for paddling on the creek side.
