Chic's Beach
Virginia Beach, VA
Chic's Beach is the local name for the two mile stretch of Chesapeake Bay shoreline in Virginia Beach that runs from Lynnhaven Inlet up to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Facing the bay instead of the open Atlantic, the water stays flat and calm most days, which is why families end up here instead of the oceanfront strip.
Calm, kid friendly water locals prize over the ocean side, but the total absence of a real parking lot is the tradeoff every visitor discovers eventually.
How we score beachesParking is residential street spots only, no municipal lot, so arrive before mid morning on a summer Saturday or expect to circle blocks near the walkways off Vista Circle and Concord Street.
There's no dedicated beach lot. Limited metered and residential street parking lines the streets running down to the water, and spots near the walkways go first.
Short, flat walks from the street to the sand at numbered street ends; no boardwalk or paved path.
Water in the mid to upper 70s by August and hurricane season running June through November apply here the same as the rest of Virginia Beach, though the bay's calmer water makes it a better bet for young swimmers than the ocean side during a wind advisory.
