Chimney Beach
Incline Village, NV
Chimney Beach is a hike-down beach on Lake Tahoe's East Shore, about two miles south of Sand Harbor near Incline Village. It's named for the old stone chimney still standing on the shoreline from a long-gone cabin. The sand is broken up by granite boulders, and the water runs turquoise over them.
Boulders, clear water, and a bit of history, but the trail back up is steep and the lot is tiny.
How we score beachesGo on a weekday morning. The trail is short, but the highway lot fills fast in summer and cars end up lining the shoulder.
A small lot on the east side of Highway 28 serves the trail; arrive early on summer weekends.
A steep dirt trail drops from the lot to the shoreline; not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers.
Summer through early fall is the time. The trail gets icy in winter and the lot can be snowed in.
