Chun's Reef

Chun's Reef sits just south of Laniakea, a gentler, more beginner friendly surf spot than the famous winter breaks further up the coast. A shallow inner reef keeps most of the swell from reaching the sand directly, making it a solid pick for anyone learning to surf on the North Shore.
A genuinely good learner's surf spot by North Shore standards, though parking is tight and there's little to do here if you're not getting in the water.
How we score beachesThis is one of the better North Shore spots to take a first surf lesson, since the reef mellows out swells that would be too much elsewhere on this coast.
Roadside parking along Kamehameha Highway is the main option, limited and often tight in surf season.
A short, flat sandy path leads from the road to the beach.
Winter brings consistent, beginner manageable surf, while summer often goes flat entirely.
