Community Beach Park
Norfolk, VA
Community Beach Park sits a short drive east of Ocean View Beach Park on the same Norfolk shoreline, at 700 East Ocean View Avenue. It's the one of the city's three beach parks where grilling is actually allowed on the grass, which makes it the default choice for a group cookout rather than just a beach day.
The grilling allowance and grassy layout make it the pick for a group gathering over a quiet beach day, though swimmers should know there's no lifeguard here either.
How we score beachesBring a grill and claim a grass spot early if a summer weekend cookout is the plan. The picnic areas here fill faster than the sand does.
Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the beach.
Access ramps and walkways connect the lot to the sand, along with restrooms on site.
Like the rest of Norfolk's Ocean View shoreline, the bay stays calmer than the open Atlantic, with water in the mid to upper 70s by August.
