Coon Street Beach
Kings Beach, CA
Coon Street Beach, at Highway 28 and Coon Street in Kings Beach, is the North Shore's best-known dog beach. The shoreline is rocky rather than sandy, with a boat launch, shaded picnic tables, and a public bathroom. The water stays shallow for a good distance, which is exactly what dogs like.
Locals love it as the North Shore's dog beach, but it's rocky, not sandy, and the parking isn't free.
How we score beachesBring water shoes for yourself. The rocky shore is easy on dogs but hard on bare feet.
A paid lot with an automated pay machine next to the restrooms.
A short walk from the lot to a rocky shoreline; footing can be uneven.
Dogs are welcome; follow posted leash rules at the beach.
Summer is busiest with dogs and boats. Fall is quieter, with cooler air and fewer boat launches.
