Deal is one of the wealthiest small towns on the Jersey Shore, and its beach reflects that split personality, a public stretch at the Conover Pavilion sitting a short walk from private clubs like the Deal Casino Bathing Club that most visitors will never set foot in. The town has tried more than once to restrict street parking to residents only near the beach, and state public trust law has shut it down each time.
The public beach itself is unremarkable and hemmed in by private clubs on both sides, and the town's ongoing parking disputes make it feel less welcoming to outsiders than most of its neighbors.
