Duxbury Beach
Duxbury, MA
Duxbury Beach is a six mile barrier beach reaching south from the Powder Point Bridge toward Saquish, one of the longest on the Massachusetts coast, with Cape Cod Bay on one side and Duxbury Bay on the other. Most of it is reserved for oversand permit holders, but the public can use Duxbury Beach Park at the north end.
A long, wild barrier beach with real scale and a proud local following, but the parking rules and non-resident costs are steep.
How we score beachesDuxbury Beach Park is the public entry point, and it fills early on summer weekends. Non-residents should arrive early and bring cash, and note that the oversand permit is expensive.
Duxbury Beach Park charges a daily fee, and a snack bar and restrooms are on site. Oversand permits are separate and pricey for non-residents. Access from Marshfield is via Canal Street to Gurnet Road.
Duxbury Beach Park has paved parking and restrooms near the beach, and the sand is regular soft sand.
Summer is peak season, and the lots fill by mid morning. Spring and fall are quiet, and piping plover nesting can close sections of the beach.
