Elberta Beach

Elberta Beach sits on the south side of the Betsie River channel, directly across from Frankfort. The view back across the harbor to the Frankfort lighthouse is excellent. It's quieter than Frankfort's beach and one of the few spots in the area where leashed dogs are welcome.
Great lighthouse views and dog friendly, though there are fewer amenities than Frankfort.

Summer evenings are best for the lighthouse view. The beach stays open year round, and winter brings ice formations on the breakwater.

Chicago weekenders fill it in summer. The town's shops and restaurants are a five minute walk back up the street.
Warren Dunes State Park

Warren Dunes State Park in Sawyer has roughly three miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and some of the tallest dunes in southwest Michigan. Tower Hill rises about 260 feet above the lake, and climbing it and running back down is a rite of passage. On a hot July Saturday the beach feels like a small city.
