Fort Foster
Kittery, ME
Fort Foster is a town park on Gerrish Island in Kittery Point, with old fort ruins, open lawns, and three small shore spots: Pier Beach, Horn Point Beach, and Scuba Beach. The beaches are modest but the setting is the draw, with views across the harbor mouth and plenty of room to wander.
A well loved town park with history and several beaches, though a nonresident fee applies and the sand is modest.
How we score beachesWalk the shoreline loop and try all three beaches, since each has a different feel. Bring a picnic and stay for the afternoon.
A park lot serves the beaches. A nonresident fee applies, so check the Town of Kittery for current rates.
Paved park roads lead close to the shore, then short walks over rocks and sand.
Summer is the busy season, and the water stays cold. Fall walks around the fort are quiet.
