Gearhart Beach
Gearhart, OR
Gearhart's beach fronts a small, low key town that locals from Seaside and Portland alike treat as the quiet alternative to the boardwalk scene a few miles south. The 10th Avenue access point is the one most people use, opening onto a wide, flat stretch that vehicles can still drive on above the tideline.
Wide, walkable sand and a genuinely quieter town than its neighbors, though the beach itself doesn't have much beyond open space and a good sunset.
How we score beachesPark at 10th Avenue rather than fighting for the smaller side street spots. It's the widest, most obvious access and rarely fills completely.
Free street parking at the 10th Avenue beach approach and other numbered cross streets.
Flat sand access directly from the street end, no stairs.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach.
June through September brings the driest stretch on this part of the coast, though wind off the water can be sharp even on a clear day.
