Gooseberry Island
Westport, MA
Gooseberry Island, also called Gooseberry Neck, is part of Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Westport, reached by a causeway. The east side is sandy and the west side is rocky, and a World War II watchtower stands on the island. A free medium gravel lot is available and leashed dogs are welcome.
Free parking, dogs and a WWII tower on a causeway island, but the rocky west side limits swimming.
How we score beachesChoose your side by the wind. The sandy east side and rocky west side feel very different depending on the day.
A free medium gravel lot on the island.
Gravel lot and uneven shoreline; not ADA accessible.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
Summer days are best on the sheltered side, and autumn brings clear light and fewer people. Storm swells make the rocky side dramatic.
