How we score beachesDogs and off trail walking are restricted during nesting season to protect the plovers, so check current rules before you go.
Dogs are prohibited on the preserve from April 1 through September 1 to protect nesting shorebirds, but are allowed leashed the rest of the year.
Rhode Island's beach season runs the classic Memorial Day to Labor Day window, with water reaching the upper 60s by August. Plovers nest here in late spring, which shapes access as much as the weather does through June.
