Greenwell State Park Beach

Hollywood, MD

UncrowdedScenicHistoric

Greenwell State Park sits on a former farm estate along two miles of Patuxent River waterfront, donated to the state in the 1970s, with a small beach area for swimming tucked among ten miles of trails, a historic manor house, and a horseback riding program. The beach is almost an afterthought to everything else going on here, which is part of the appeal.

Locals Score🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥

Ten miles of trails, a historic manor, and river access make it a genuinely good day out, but the beach itself is small and secondary to everything else the park offers.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Pair a swim with a walk past the historic Rosedale Manor House. Most people come for the trails and horses and only discover the beach after.

Parking

A lot near the park entrance, with a $3 per vehicle fee for Maryland-tagged cars and $5 for out-of-state vehicles.

Accessibility

Trails connect the parking area to the small beach and to a 50-foot accessible fishing pier.

Weather & the best time to visit

The park is open 7am to sunset May through September and 8am to sunset the rest of the year, with water warming into the mid 70s by August. Fall visits favor the trails and riding stables over the beach itself.
