Hanakaoo Beach Park

Hanakaoo Beach Park sits at the south end of the Kaanapali corridor, a working beach for Lahaina's outrigger canoe clubs more than a tourist stop. Locals know it simply as Canoe Beach, and on any given evening the sand fills with paddlers rigging boats rather than sunbathers laying out towels.
A genuine working local beach with real canoe club culture, but open exposure and a rougher shorebreak than its resort neighbors make it a better place to watch than to swim.
How we score beachesThis stretch faces open water with less reef protection than Kaanapali proper, so the shorebreak and current can run stronger. Better for a walk or watching canoe practice than a casual swim with kids.
A free county lot runs along Honoapiilani Highway, with plenty of space most days since this beach draws fewer visitors than the resort strip just north.
A grassy park leads onto open sand with no stairs, though the beach can be uneven where canoes are pulled up and launched.
Trade winds blow steadily here most of the year, picking up further in summer afternoons, which is part of why the canoe clubs favor early morning and evening sessions.
