Harris Beach State Park
Brookings, OR
Harris Beach sits at the north edge of Brookings, the largest developed beach access on the far south coast, with a campground, tide pools, and Goat Island, Oregon's largest island and a protected seabird and marine mammal refuge, visible just offshore. It's the natural base for exploring the rest of the Boardman corridor to the north.
A real local institution and the biggest, most complete beach setup on the south coast, with Goat Island and the mild banana belt climate as genuine bonuses, crowded in summer being the one real tradeoff.
How we score beachesCheck tide pools at the south end of the beach near the rocks at low tide, and keep an eye on Goat Island offshore for seabirds and the occasional seal.
A day use fee applies at the main lot; camping requires a separate reservation.
A paved path and stairway connect the campground and day use lot to the beach.
Leashed dogs are allowed throughout the park.
Brookings sits in Oregon's banana belt, with milder winters than the rest of the coast, making this one of the more comfortable year round beaches in the state.
