Heceta Beach
Florence, OR
Heceta Beach starts at the North Jetty of the Siuslaw River and runs about three miles north to Sutton Creek, the closest real beach to downtown Florence and one that still allows vehicles on part of the sand. It's named for the same explorer as the lighthouse a few miles north, though the beach and the landmark aren't in the same spot.
The closest real beach to Florence and genuinely convenient, though it's a working stretch of sand shared with vehicles rather than a scenic standout.
How we score beachesCheck current signage for the vehicle zone boundaries before driving onto the sand. Rules on where cars are allowed shift by season and after storm damage.
Free access at Heceta Beach Road; some stretches allow direct vehicle access onto the sand.
Flat, direct sand access from the road end, no stairs.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach.
Summer, June through September, is driest and calmest for both driving and walking on the sand.
