Herrington Manor State Park Beach

Oakland, MD

Family-friendlyScenicUncrowded

Herrington Manor's 53-acre lake sits inside Garrett State Forest, small enough to feel more like a private mountain pond than a park with 20 rental log cabins attached. The sandy swim beach shares the shoreline with grassy areas where cabin guests and day visitors alike spread out for a full afternoon.

Locals Score🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥

A genuinely peaceful mountain lake with cabins to extend the stay, small enough that it never feels like the county's main event the way Deep Creek does.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Book one of the 20 log cabins if a single day at the lake isn't enough. They rent year round and put you a short walk from the beach itself.

Parking

A lot at 222 Herrington Lane serves the beach and cabins, with a per-person day-use fee collected at the gate.

Accessibility

A short, flat walk from the lot to the sandy beach.

Pets

Leashed dogs are allowed in the day-use area but not on the sandy beach itself.

Weather & the best time to visit

Lifeguards are on duty 11am to 6pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather and staffing permitting; outside those hours swimming is allowed at your own risk. Garrett County's mountain climate keeps summers milder and winters snowier than the rest of Maryland.
