Holden Beach runs about eight miles along one of Brunswick County's quieter barrier islands, mostly single-family rental cottages instead of high-rises, with dozens of public accesses spaced along the strand. There's no boardwalk district here and no real nightlife, which is exactly the point for the families who come back year after year.

Public accesses have free or metered parking depending on location. Check current signage, since Holden Beach has shifted some lots to paid parking in recent years.
Most accesses use a boardwalk or sand path crossing over the dune.
Dogs are banned from the beach strand 9am to 5pm, May 20 through September 10, and banned from public access lots entirely during that stretch. Outside those hours, and the rest of the year, leashed dogs are welcome.
Water reaches the upper 70s by August, during the same June through November hurricane season as the rest of the Brunswick Islands. The quiet, cottage-heavy character holds steady well into the fall shoulder season.
