How we score beachesThe state park lot fills by late morning in season, but approaching from the town side can help you avoid the fee.
Dogs are banned from the beach from April 1 through September 15, but leashed dogs are allowed during the off-season.
Southern New England's water takes its time warming, not really comfortable for swimming until July, then holding into the upper 60s through August. The surf here draws a small crew of cold water regulars well outside that window, wetsuits and all.
