Humbug Mountain State Park Beach
Port Orford, OR
Humbug Mountain rises 1,765 feet almost directly from the beach, and most visitors come for the roughly five mile round trip hike to the summit rather than the narrow, rocky beach itself below the campground. The beach is a genuinely quiet spot to cool off after the climb, tucked beneath forested cliffs that block much of the wind.
The mountain hike is the real draw here and it's a good one, while the beach itself is a pleasant but secondary stop rather than a standalone destination.
How we score beachesDo the mountain hike in the morning before the day heats up, then use the beach afterward to cool off. The trailhead and beach access share the same park entrance.
A day use fee applies at the main park lot, shared by hikers and beachgoers.
Beach access from the campground is a short, somewhat uneven path; the summit trail itself is a real hike, not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs.
Leashed dogs are allowed throughout the park.
Summer, June through September, is the most reliable season for both a clear summit view and a comfortable beach afterward.
