It's the biggest and busiest of the beach communities that make up Jacksonville's coastline, with the most public parking and amenities to match.
The pier, the nightlife, and the seasonal dog access give it real range for a Jacksonville area beach, though the size and popularity mean it's rarely the quiet option among the area's beach towns.
How we score beachesDogs are allowed on the beach any time from October through March, but only outside the 9am to 5pm window the rest of the year, so plan a summer visit with a pet around those hours. The 9th Avenue public access has free parking, a better bet than hunting for street spots closer to the pier.

The fishing pier is handicap accessible with a concession area and restrooms. Most beach accesses have a short, flat walk from parking to the sand.
Dogs are allowed on the beach anytime October through March, and outside 9am to 5pm the rest of the year, on a leash no longer than 8 feet; pets aren't allowed on the fishing pier.
Summer brings the warmest water and biggest crowds along with hurricane season starting in June. Spring and fall keep the beach comfortable with noticeably fewer people, and the dog restrictions ease up outside the summer window too.
