Juniper Beach
Salem, MA
Juniper Beach is a small sand beach with a rocky edge on Salem Neck, reached from Beach Avenue off Columbus Avenue in the Juniper Point neighborhood. A marked swimming area sits beside a boardwalk with seating, and a boat launch is close by. Salem Willows Park is a short walk away for food and arcade stops.
A tidy neighborhood beach with a real swim area and the Willows next door, but tight parking and a rocky shoreline keep it a short-visit spot.
How we score beachesSpace is tight at the entrance, so arrive early on summer weekends or walk over from the Salem Willows side. Check the tide before you plan to swim, since the rocky shoreline is easier at higher water.
A small lot on Cheval Avenue and nearby street parking serve the beach, and spaces right at the entrance are very limited. Check posted signs for neighborhood restrictions.
A boardwalk with seating runs along the sand, which helps for strollers and slower walkers. The beach itself is sand mixed with rock, so the last few steps to the water can be uneven.
Water off Salem Neck stays cool into July and is most comfortable in August. Spring and fall mornings are quiet, with clear views across the bay.
