Kahana Beach

Kahana, HI

Family-friendlySnorkeling

Kahana Beach runs in a narrow strip below a line of condos between Napili and Honokowai, a working beach for the people who live here more than a destination anyone drives across the island for. The sand is soft and the water calm behind the fringing reef, good for an easy swim without much of a scene.

A convenient, uncrowded stretch for the neighborhood, but the eroding sand and lack of any real parking make it more of a local's beach than a trip worth planning around.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

Erosion has eaten into the sand in front of several buildings over the years, so the widest, most reliable stretch tends to be at the south end near the Kahana boat ramp.

Parking

There's no dedicated public lot. A few marked public access paths between the condo buildings off Lower Honoapiilani Highway offer limited street parking nearby.

Accessibility

Short paved or sandy paths between the condos lead onto the beach, mostly flat, though the sand itself narrows considerably in spots.

Weather & the best time to visit

Summer brings the calmest, clearest water for a casual swim, while winter surf and higher tides can shrink the usable sand to almost nothing at some access points.
