Kaiona Beach Park
Waimanalo, HI
Kaiona Beach Park is a small, shallow cove near the south end of Waimanalo, protected enough that it's become a go to for families with young kids who want calm water without driving all the way to Kailua. A short rock jetty gives the cove even more shelter than the open bay just south of it.
A genuinely safe, shallow spot for small kids, but it's a modest little park without much shade or space once a few families show up.
How we score beachesThe shallow water near the jetty is the safest spot for little kids, but it gets thin at low tide, so time your visit for a rising tide if you want depth to wade in.
A small free lot sits off Kalanianaole Highway right at the park.
Flat grass and sand lead straight to the water with no stairs.
Calm nearly year round thanks to the jetty and the shallow bay. Summer just brings warmer water and a bigger crowd.
