Kalama Park

Kihei, HI

Family-friendlyUncrowded

Kalama Park anchors the middle of Kihei's beach strip with a huge grassy field that hosts everything from soccer practice to weekend farmers markets, the sand itself a secondary attraction to the park behind it. It's less about swimming here and more about the scene: skate park, tennis courts, and enough shade trees to make it Kihei's default gathering spot.

Locals Score🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥

The park itself is a genuine community hub locals use constantly, but as a swimming beach the sand is thin and rocky compared to Kihei's better stretches just south.

How we score beaches
Local Tip

The sand directly in front of the main park is narrow and often rocky. Walk a few minutes south to Charley Young Beach for a better swimming and sunbathing stretch.

Parking

A large free lot serves the main park off South Kihei Road, rarely full given how much space the park covers.

Accessibility

Flat, paved paths cross the park to the sand, an easy walk for strollers, though the beach itself narrows and gets rockier in spots.

Weather & the best time to visit

Kihei's dry, sunny climate holds steady most of the year, with summer bringing the calmest water for the handful of people who do swim here.

2 Access Points

This isn't one entrance, it's a stretch with a few. Here's where locals actually meet up.

Kalama Park

The main park entrance with the big lawn, courts, and skate park, fronting a narrower, sometimes rocky stretch of sand.

Parking: A large free lot off South Kihei Road serves the whole park.

Local tip: Come for the park amenities and farmers market more than the swimming here.

Charley Young Beach

A small, sandy pocket beach just south of Kalama Park's main lawn, favored by locals for actual swimming and bodyboarding over the main park's rockier sand.

Parking: Limited street parking along South Kihei Road near Kaiau Place, no dedicated lot.

Local tip: This is the better swimming sand in the immediate area. Walk south from Kalama Park's lawn to find it.
