Kawaikuʻi Beach Park

Kawaikuʻi Beach Park is a small, grassy neighborhood park in Āina Haina with a shallow, protected lagoon that barely gets any current. Locals bring toddlers here specifically because of how calm and shallow it stays, and green sea turtles show up often enough that regulars stop pointing them out.
About as safe and calm as swimming with kids gets on this side of the island, though there's very little actual sand and almost no shade once the good spots under the trees fill up.
How we score beachesThe lagoon is shallow enough to wade across at low tide, but watch your footing. The bottom is mostly exposed reef rather than sand.
A small free lot sits right off Kalanianaole Highway, easy in and out, and it rarely fills outside of weekend family gatherings.
Flat grass leads straight to the shoreline with no stairs, though the reef flat itself is uneven underfoot.
Calm almost every day of the year thanks to the reef. Summer just means warmer air and a bigger weekend crowd.
