Kings Beach State Recreation Area
Kings Beach, CA
Kings Beach State Recreation Area is the biggest public sandy beach on Lake Tahoe's North Shore, about 1,700 feet of lakefront right along Highway 28 in Kings Beach. There are picnic tables, rentals, and plenty of space to spread out. It's the classic North Shore town beach, walkable to restaurants and shops.
Big, sandy, and close to town, but on summer weekends it's crowded and busy with traffic.
How we score beachesWalk across the highway for lunch and come back. The beach stays lively into the evening, and the lot turns over as day visitors head home.
A paid lot at the beach off Highway 28 fills on summer weekends; street parking nearby is limited.
Paved paths lead from the lot to the sand, with picnic areas close to the beach.
July and August are busy and warm. By September it's calmer, and the water holds some summer warmth.
