Little Sand Bay
Bayfield, WI
Little Sand Bay is a sandy mainland beach in Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, north of Bayfield, next to the park's visitor center. There's a pavilion, a playground by the beach, a boat launch, and a campground. It's a good launch point for kayaks heading out toward Sand Island.

The visitor center is staffed through the summer season. Morning is usually the calmest time to paddle before the afternoon wind builds.

Warren Dunes State Park in Sawyer has roughly three miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and some of the tallest dunes in southwest Michigan. Tower Hill rises about 260 feet above the lake, and climbing it and running back down is a rite of passage. On a hot July Saturday the beach feels like a small city.
