Longnook Beach
Truro, MA
Longnook Beach in Truro sits below towering dunes with wide views of the open Atlantic. The path from the lot leads down through the dunes to a broad, quiet beach that feels far from the road. Surf is steady here, and the setting is one of the most dramatic on the Outer Cape.
Towering dunes and open Atlantic views make it a true Outer Cape favorite, though the walk and cold water set the tone.
How we score beachesBring layers and shade, since there is little cover and the wind can pick up. Go early or late for the best light.
Truro town beach passes are required in season, roughly 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from mid June through Labor Day. Check the town for current rates.
The approach is a walk down through the dunes to the sand. Soft sand and slopes make it tough for wheelchairs.
Summer water is cool, and July and August are best for swimming. Fall brings stronger surf and long, empty stretches of sand.
