Lovells Island Beach
Boston, MA
Lovells Island is a 61 acre Boston Harbor island of pine woods, old fort batteries, and campsites, with a rocky beach that draws swimmers and beachcombers in summer. Reached by ferry from Georges Island in season, it has composting toilets and no shops, so you bring what you need and leave with it.
A wild harbor island with woods, old batteries, and a swimming beach, though the ferry logistics and lack of facilities take effort.
How we score beachesPack water, snacks, and shoes for a rocky shoreline. There are only composting toilets and no shops, and the ferry connection depends on the season.
Reached by inter-island ferry, typically from Georges Island, May to October. There is no parking on the island.
