Lucy Vincent Beach
Chilmark, MA
Lucy Vincent Beach lies beneath the clay bluffs of Chilmark's south shore, with wide sand and a real Atlantic swell rolling in. Many islanders call it their favorite beach. The colors of the cliffs change through the day, and the walk down from the lot sets the tone.
Widely considered the island's most beautiful beach, but in season it is reserved for Chilmark residents and their guests.
How we score beachesIn summer the beach is restricted to Chilmark residents and guests during the day. Off season, everyone can visit, and September is the best time to go.
From June 1 to mid September, parking is limited to Chilmark residents with a beach sticker. Outside those dates it is open to all.
A path leads from the lot through dunes to the sand, with soft ground at the end. There are no lifeguards or amenities beyond the basics.
Atlantic swell brings waves through summer, and water is cooler than the Sound side. Late September is warm, clear, and open to the public.
