Madequecham Beach
Nantucket, MA
Madequecham Beach is a long south shore stretch on Nantucket reached by a dirt road through the Madequecham Valley. The surf comes straight off the Atlantic, and the sand is wide with dunes behind it. Locals come for space and waves.
Wide open Atlantic beach with good waves, though the dirt road and lack of facilities take some planning.
How we score beachesThe dirt road can be rough, so drive slowly. Check conditions before entering the water since the Atlantic surf can be strong.
There is a small parking area near the beach. It can fill on nice summer days.
The access road is unpaved, and a walk over soft sand leads to the shore. There are no built facilities.
Atlantic swells arrive most strongly in late summer and fall. Summer days are warm, and the water is cooler than the north side.
