Marconi Beach
Wellfleet, MA
Marconi Beach is a Cape Cod National Seashore beach in Wellfleet, backed by tall bluffs and open Atlantic water. The Marconi Station Site, where the first transatlantic wireless message from the United States was sent in 1903, is a short drive away. Lifeguards are on duty in season.
Bluffs, wide sand and nearby history make it a Seashore standout, but summer fees and crowds are a factor.
How we score beachesPair the beach with the Marconi Station Site trail nearby. It is a quick walk and adds some context.
The Seashore charges a per vehicle fee in season, with daily and season passes available. The lot fills early on summer weekends.
A paved lot leads to a stair and boardwalk down the bluff. The final approach is over sand.
Pets are prohibited on lifeguarded beaches in summer, and leashed pets are allowed in the off season, with shorebird closures possible.
Summer water is cool, and the best days are in July and August. Fall brings quieter beaches and stronger surf.
