Marina State Beach

Marina State Beach is known locally as a hang gliding launch site, with the Marina Dunes Open Space Preserve behind it protecting some of the last undeveloped dune habitat on this stretch of Monterey Bay. Access comes from either Reservation Road or Lake Drive, and a path through the neighboring Sanctuary Beach Resort offers a third way in.
The hang gliding and genuinely intact dune habitat give it real character, though the constant wind that makes it good for the sport can be a lot for a casual visit.

Free parking is available at both the Reservation Road and Lake Drive access points.
Stairs, a path, and a boardwalk cross the dunes from parking to the beach.
Dogs are not allowed at Marina State Beach.
Wind is a near constant here, part of what draws the hang gliders, with fog common most mornings year round.
