Mayflower Beach

Mayflower Beach is one of the most popular beaches on Cape Cod Bay, a wide stretch of sand in Dennis with a long tide drop. At low tide, the flats extend out far enough for a real walk. Lifeguards are on duty in season, and the crowd skews toward families with kids.
A big, reliable bay beach with a long tide drop that locals love, but weekend crowds and full lots by late morning are the tradeoff.
How we score beachesArrive before 10 a.m. on summer weekends, or aim for the late afternoon once the first shift leaves. The tide pools at low water are the best part for young kids.
Dennis beach passes are required in season, and daily and weekly passes are sold. The lot fills early on summer weekends.
The approach is a short path from the lot to the sand. The beach is soft sand, with flat access at the water's edge.
Warmest water comes in late July and August. Tides swing widely here, so the beach looks very different from morning to afternoon.
