Morro Bay State Park wraps around the calm estuary side of the bay, with camping, a golf course, a marina, and the Cabrillo Creek Trail all built around one of the richest wetland habitats on the Central Coast. It's a genuinely different experience than the open ocean beaches nearby, calm water and real birdlife over surf and sand.
The genuine wetland ecosystem and calm estuary paddling set it apart from a typical beach park, though the no-dogs rule on the beach itself is worth knowing ahead of time.
How we score beachesRent a kayak at the marina if you want to explore the estuary properly, paddling is a genuinely better way to see the wetland habitat than walking the shoreline trails alone.
Free parking is available throughout the park.
A path leads from parking to the estuary shoreline; trails connect to the Cabrillo Creek area.
Dogs are not permitted on the beach.
Fall and winter bring the most birdlife to the estuary, while fog is common most mornings year round.
