Nauset Light Beach
Eastham, MA
Nauset Light Beach is a Cape Cod National Seashore beach in Eastham, backed by high dunes that give it a private feel. The lighthouse from which it takes its name stands a short walk away. Lifeguards are on duty from late June through Labor Day, and the surf is real Atlantic surf.
High dunes, the lighthouse and real surf make it a favorite, though the fee and summer crowds are worth planning around.
How we score beachesWalk to the base of the dunes for privacy, or head north along the water. Visit the lighthouse early, before the lot fills.
The Seashore charges a per vehicle fee in season, with daily and season passes available. The paved lot is large but fills on summer weekends.
A paved lot connects to a walkway leading to the beach. The final approach is over sand.
Pets are prohibited on lifeguarded beaches in summer, and leashed pets are allowed in the off season, with shorebird closures possible.
Summer water is cool and bracing, and the beach is at its best on calm mornings. Fall and winter bring stronger surf and open sand.
