Neskowin Beach
Neskowin, OR
Neskowin is a small, low key beach town anchored by Proposal Rock, a tree topped sea stack sitting just offshore at the mouth of Neskowin Creek that's shallow enough to walk out to at low tide. At very low tides, the stumps of an ancient buried forest, thousands of years old, sometimes surface in the sand a short walk north.
Proposal Rock and the rare ghost forest sightings give it real character, but the town is tiny with almost no services beyond a general store.
How we score beachesCheck a tide table for the lowest tides of the month if you want a shot at seeing the ghost forest stumps. They only show up a few times a year and only briefly.
Free street parking near the small town center.
Flat sand access from the town center, no stairs.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach.
Summer, June through September, is the driest and busiest season; the lowest tides that expose the ghost forest can happen in any season, so check a tide chart rather than the calendar.
